StarHub posts 2Q net profit of $58.1M

StarHub has posted a 25.4% fall in profit to $58.1 million for the second quarter ended 30 June 2010 (2QFY2010) from $77.8 million for 2QFY2009.

StarHub says the current quarter’s performance was impacted by the continued investment in iPhones and other smart phones/devices in the Mobile business.

On the Pay TV business, the broadcast of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in June also contributed to the higher operating revenue and expenses for the quarter and half year periods.

Operating revenue rose 6.9% to $569.3 million compared to $532.4 million a year ago as the industry.

Total service revenue for the quarter recorded y-o-y growth. Both Mobile and Pay TV services contributed to the bulk of the service revenue increase. Mobile revenue grew 8.2% to $294.0 million from $271.9 million y-o-y.

Post-paid mobile services revenue was 10.4% higher at $229.1 million. Pre-paid mobile services revenue grew 1.1% to $65 million in 2Q2010..
Pay TV revenue increased 9.0% to $109.6 million from $100.5 million. The higher revenue from a year ago was attributed to a revenue boost from the broadcast screening of the FIFA World Cup 2010 event in June. Customer base was up 2.0% y-o-y to 541,000.

Broadband revenue decreased 1.8% to $59.2 million y-o-y. The residential broadband customer base grew 4.8% y-o-y, ending the quarter with 408,000 customers.

Fixed Network revenue increased 2.1% to $81.6 million from $80.0 million previously. Data & Internet services revenue, which makes up 84% of the Fixed Network revenue, increased 1% from a year ago. Voice services revenue increased 8.1% to $13.4 million y-o-y due mainly to higher revenue from Digital Voice services.
